How to Incorporate Videos into your Marketing Strategy

In the last year or so, video has overtaken every other digital content in terms of online engagement, which is incredible given that this online marketing trend was unthinkable five years ago. So, how did we get here? Well, not only has technology improved exponentially allow us the access and bandwidth, but video allows users to get more personal with content and brands. With video engagement being what it is today, it is safe to say that there is no turning back from this trend.

Now that video is here to stay, how do digital marketers and companies incorporate a video strategy to increase engagement with audiences? Marketers must be able to put thought-provoking and informative, yet personable content in front of a target audience at the right time, using the right platform, to be effective.

Some of us may not have the time or expertise to produce awesome high-quality, cinematic videos. But that is why we need to collaborate or turn to resources such as YouTube to learn. Truth be told, videos are going nowhere, and as time goes on, more and more companies will be producing only this type of content. It is time to get you ahead of the curve and the competition, and into creating great video content!

To get you started, we have compiled a list of ideas to help you create a successful and effective video marketing strategy:

1. High quality content. Your video needs to be high quality content. This does not mean that you need to run out to Best Buy and Nikon and purchase all new digital recording devices and accessories. Smartphones can now record in 4 K, digital cameras can record, even your Go Pro can produce some quality content. All you need to ensure is that the footage is clear and visible, your audio is stable and can be heard, and that your content looks as professional and engaging to your audience as possible. Sure, investment into audio and lighting equipment may improve the quality, but as a beginner, there are many available options that you already have available for your use. If your footage is clear, understandable and engaging, you are on the right track!

2. Original and unique content. There are many copy and paste video content producers out there. That is the nature of the internet. However, that is not how anyone builds a large following, or is seen as an incredible content creator. Successful marketers need to produce video content that they know their audience cannot find anywhere else. This is what makes the videos unique and interesting, and what keeps people coming back to watch more. It may be a funny niche that only a specific audience would respond to, or information that connects with certain people emotionally. If you do this for your audience, they will reciprocate with loyalty, as you are providing them with an information source that they cannot live without.

3. Talk to a specific audience. Today, there are many tools available at your finger tips that help give you an insight as to what your target audience wants, enjoys, eats, needs, and wears every day. Google Analytics, Facebook Targeting and Bing Analytics are a few of these tools available for your use. It is your job to use these tools to discover more about your audience, so that you can tailor your video content to their liking. This engages your audience and keeps them coming back to your channel or page for more information. If you are unsure of how to use analytic tools, then use social media and ask your audience. Facebook and Instagram allow you to create polls, asking questions to your followers. Use what is available to you to deliver content that your audience wants, each time.

4. Professional live video feed. Some of the easiest and most engaging video content available for use is Facebook Live feed. This allows creators to produce video footage live, right onto Facebook, while followers can watch and comment at the same time. Given there is no room for mistakes or slip ups on live feed, it is imperative that you plan out and rehearse your content before you begin. This can be as simple as practice footage and shots or writing down what you will be talking about beforehand. By using this feature, you have a wonderful shot to engage followers into becoming loyal viewers of your content on Facebook or any other platform. Therefore, it is best to ensure your live feed is always professional and well put together before you begin.

5. Increase Search Engine Rankings. You produce videos for others to view and learn from, so of course you want your content to be found. One of the best ways to do this is through SEO or search engine optimization. While SEO is a blog topic of its own to cover, there are two simple things that you can start doing now, to help improve your ranking. Videos have “Alt” tags which can be populated with keywords related to your content. By populating these Alt tags, you can help your videos be found by people who search those keywords into Google, Bing or even YouTube. Another way to increase your SEO is through hashtags. By posting your videos on social media, and using hashtags within your post content, you can help expand the reach that your content receives. By adding these tips into your next post, you should be able to expand your reach, bringing your videos more views!

6. Make co-created video content. Another way to get your videos and content to be heard of, is to reach out to other creators to collaborate. If there is another brand, or someone you met at a network event who is in line with your target audience, it may be a good idea to create videos together to be posted on both channels and platforms for each audience to see. This strategy can help increase brand awareness, views and loyal followers, just make sure that the collaborator is not a direct competitor.

7. Start producing and releasing content. So, you have your strategy ready to go and you’ve started creating videos, great! Now the next thing you must do is start posting and releasing your content. It is easy to get wound up in perfecting and fixing your videos repeatedly to try and make them perfect. But we promise you, the first video you make, will never be perfect. Within time, after you learn more and gain practice, your videos will start to enhance and develop. However, for this to happen, you must keep creating and producing. So, don’t wait! Start now!
